Responding to a request from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, ASTM International and the Convention Industry Council have launched a joint activity to consider the effects of meetings on the environment. This effort will bring together stakeholders in the development of industry-wide accepted practices to create and enhance efficiencies throughout the meetings, conventions and exhibition industry. The new activity is currently Task Group E06.71.04 on Green Meetings and Events, housed within ASTM International Committee E06 on Performance of Buildings. In an effort to prevent burn injuries, Congress approved legislation requiring portable fuel containers to have child-resistant closures that conform to ASTM F2517, Standard Specification for Determination of Child Resistance of Portable Fuel Containers for Consumer Use.
